I made 4 visits to The Philippines while I was in the Navy. 2 in 1987, and 2 more in 1989. I met Eden on my very first trip, and did not see her again until my last trip. I hung out at the same bar during every visit, a place called Gilligan's Island. Gilligan's is in Barrio Baretto, a poor, rural part of Olongapo City. Eden was working at Gilligan's when I met her. But on my 2nd and 3rd trips, she was not there. On my 4th trip, though, she was back. The first day of my 4th visit to P.I., I saw Eden through the window of the bar as soon as I arrived. Her back was turned toward the window, so she did not see me. There was a street vendor selling nuts and seeds on the side of the road, and I remembered from 2 years earlier that Eden liked Spanish peanuts. I bought a bag of them, and asked the kid to take them into the bar and give them to her. He did. Of course, Eden turned around to see who had bought the peanuts for her, and the rest, as they say, is history.
